Bio of Atul G. Kelkar
Atul G. Kelkar received his Ph.D. degree in Mechanical Engineering from
Old Dominion University, Norfolk, Virginia, in 1993. He held the
position of Visiting Assistant Professor in Aerospace Engineering
department at Old Dominion University from September 1993 to May 1994.
He was NRC Postdoctoral Research Associate at NASA Langley Research
Center, Hampton, Virginia from 1994 to 1996. From 1996 to 2001 he was
Assistant and then Associate Professor of Mechanical Engineering at
Kansas State University. Since 2001 he is with Mechanical Engineering
at Iowa State University as Associate Professor.
Dr. Kelkar is a recipient of NSF CAREER award. He leads various
activities in ASME and IEEE professional societies. He served as the
Chair of Technical Panel on Aerospace Systems for ASME DSCD for five
years. He is currently Associate Editor for IEEE Transactions on
Control System Technology and IEEE Conference Editorial Board. He has
served on Program Committees for various key control conferences and
also organized and chaired several technical sessions at these
conferences. His publications include several conference and journal
articles, handbook chapters, and the book entitled ``Control of
Nonlinear Multibody Flexible Space Structures" (London:
Springer-Verlag, 1996; co-authored with S. M. Joshi). His research
interests include robust control of aerospace systems, acoustic
noise control, vibration control, control of nonlinear systems,
robotics, multidisciplinary optimization, flexible multibody dynamics,
and neural networks.
